Our custom signage experts recently collaborated on a project at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to create and install wall wraps in the airport’s interior for a holiday season experience.

Heritage Signs & Displays was contacted to create and install new wall wraps in the airport’s interior. The goal was to make holiday-themed custom displays that would celebrate the holiday season with appropriate iconography, including a reindeer, Christmas tree, candy canes, holiday wreathes, and a menorah that would integrate with airport lights affixed to the walls.

When the Heritage team was contacted to produce and install these custom holiday graphics, we set out to create wall wraps that would captivate travelers and staff members to amplify the holiday spirit within the space. The wall wraps were UV printed and rectangular cut to fit the airport’s walls. The design of the wraps created the illusion of the safety lights being plugged into the wall and illuminating the reindeer’s nose, the top of the Christmas tree, and the candles of the menorah. When these elements were combined, the result was a creative integration of airport safety lights and other common materials such as orange safety cones to decorate the space in accordance with the season.

Our team conducted a site survey before the date of the installation to ensure that the new wall wraps could be affixed efficiently without obstructing foot traffic or impeding the progress of flights. Our collaborators at Charlotte Douglas International Airport were joyful with the results of our team’s work. The space has been transformed through unique signage solutions to make the holiday season shine bright in a creative way within the busy airport’s interior space.

Heritage Signs & Displays recently installed a custom timeline wall display for Sherrill Furniture in High Point, NC to prepare for the High Point Market on October 22 – October 26. The goal of the timeline display was to highlight the history of Sherrill Furniture as an American-made furniture manufacturer, from its humble origins in Mebane, NC to its current home in Hickory, NC.

One of the biggest spring and fall events in High Point, NC, the High Point Market is a massive exhibition for the furniture industry that abounds with networking opportunities, seminars, showrooms, and furniture products. The High Point Market boasts over 180 buildings, with 11.5 miles of showroom space. Approximately 75,000 people attend each market event, featuring 2,000 exhibitors and representing over 100 countries. The festival is one of the biggest events in High Point every year and serves as a beacon of the custom-made products created by local North Carolina furniture manufacturers.

The origin of the term “step and repeat” has two sources. The first is that Hollywood stars would step up to have their photos taken, then would step down and the next star would repeat the same action to have their photo taken. The second origin for “step and repeat” comes from the graphic design industry to describe a graphical element that repeats across a particular printed item. The repeated logos or imagery would be used to create copies printed across a large sheet, cut, and bound into printed banners, backdrops, or other custom event displays.

Step and repeat backdrops themselves have been in use for decades. Their primary usage has been to promote the sponsors of events, but they are also popular when used as red carpet backdrops for event photos, which usually last longer than the backdrops themselves and ensure brand longevity. Assembling a Step and Repeat Banner

How Are Step and Repeat Banners Made and Assembled?

Step and repeat banners are made by printing an approved pattern onto either vinyl or fabric before then being stitched or bound. The finished step and repeat banner can be rolled if made of vinyl or folded in a bag if made of fabric. The backdrop will have a top and bottom pole pocket. The horizontal bars of the banner stand can slide through the pole pockets and attach to the banner stand’s vertical bars. Extend and tighten the telescoping bars and the backdrop is ready for use!

What’s the Difference Between a Step and Repeat and a Hop-Up Display?

Hop-up displays are engineered to be assembled and disassembled quickly and reused many times. Hop-up displays come in a plastic or canvas case with wheels, allowing them to be assembled by removing the hop-up from the case and set face up on the floor. The opposing corners can be pulled apart until the fabric is stretched tightly. Compressing the corners together is all it takes to reduce the hop-up back to its compact size.

Hop-ups are similar to step and repeat banners in terms of their function, but hop-ups are more expensive because they are intended to last longer than step and repeats typically do and they’re even easier to set up and take down.
