Victory Christian Center Client Spotlight

Victory Christian Center: Ministering to the Body of Christ Since 1979

The Victory Christian Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to Christian education and activism, recently sought the services of Heritage Signs & Displays to create updated outdoor signs and vinyl wall graphics for their facility in Charlotte, NC.

Founded in 1979 by Pastor Robyn Gool, Victory Christian Center operates multiple campuses in the city and operates schools dedicated to Christian education, including Victory Christian Center School and More Than Conquerors College. The Victory Christian Center School campus was in need of updated signage for its sports facilities and reception area.

Tiara Cloud, the Marketing and Promotions Director for Victory Christian Center, wanted to align the Kings Ridge Drive campus with the current VCC branding. Specifically, she wanted to update the facility with new outdoor signage, including wayfinding signage for the restrooms, vinyl wall graphics for the concessions stand, and a new dimensional sign for the wall behind the main reception area. The dimensional sign was intended to highlight Victory Christian Center’s logo and slogan.

The Heritage team began the installation process in May 2022. The installation process underwent several phases, the first of which was the stud-mounted dimensional letters and vinyl graphics to go behind the reception desk sign. The installation team used a template for the placement of the letters to ensure that each one was lined up correctly. Vinyl was installed onto the drywall, then stud-mounted dimensional PVC was placed on top of the printed vinyl. Finally, silicone and VHB tape were used to secure the finished sign.

In addition to the reception desk sign, Victory Christian Center’s exterior was transformed with a revitalized concessions stand vinyl banner and three acrylic signs highlighting the sports team facilities and the sports team itself, the VCCS Kings. The men’s and women’s restroom signs were also updated to reflect the new branding and to account for the aging of the previous signs.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (Project Spotlight)

Heritage Lends a Hand in Transforming the Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Heritage Signs & Displays created and installed new window graphics and other indoor signage for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport for their Destination CLT initiative. Representatives at Charlotte Douglas International Airport reached out to our talented sign installation team to complete the rebranding of their space. We have worked with the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in the past and we were blessed to work with such an outstanding client again.

Since 1936, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport has grown from a small, regional airport into one of the largest and busiest airports in the United States and the world. It proudly serves the people of Charlotte, NC with timely, efficient domestic and international air travel.
In 2015, the Charlotte Douglas International Airport started its Destination CLT initiative, which involved an overhaul of many parts of the airport’s interior and exterior to accommodate expansions that were taking place over the next few years. The initiative involved remodeling and updating the airport’s terminal lobby, the arrivals and check-in areas, public art in the airport, and the food and beverage areas.

A Large-Scale Remodel Inside and Out

Throughout the expansion plan, the Heritage team worked very closely with the Charlotte Douglas International Airport marketing team to ensure that the signage that we created was effective and visually appealing. The scope of the project would be large, given that the inside and the outside of the airport would need to be expanded. But our team consulted with Obregon closely during the whole process to make the redesign the best it could be.

Over the years, our team has produced and installed an abundance of signage all around the airport, including canvas prints, fabric frames, dimensional lettering, window wraps, and floor graphics.

The installation team used a myriad of materials to handle the scope of the airport remodeling in the interior and exterior of the space. For the redesigned parking garage, we used window perforated film to make the announcement of the revitalization pop while allowing people on the inside of the parking garage to see out of the windows. We used vinyl floor graphics for the COVID social distancing floor graphics and fleet graphics for the branded airport busses, which we have changed out periodically since then. We created mesh banners and temporary monument signage cover-ups. We also did custom-painted road signage leading into the parking deck.

A Transformed Charlotte Douglas International Airport and a Satisfied Client

The work that the Heritage team did for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport allowed for the Destination CLT initiative to come to fruition. The window perf of the parking garage, the revitalized lobby, and the outdoor signage positioned the brand most effectively. The marketing representatives in charge of Destination CLT were thrilled with the results.
But even more importantly, the work our team did for our amazing clients allowed for the legacy of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport to be celebrated in a way that did justice to the rich history of the airport and its decades of faithfully serving the Southeast. This wasn’t our first time working with the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and it wouldn’t be the last.

An Expert Interview About Storefront Window Graphics

Our phones ring off the hook for information about storefront window graphics, so much so that I decided to interview our window graphics expert: James Zambrano.

James Zambrano
James Zambrano

Kevin: How long have you been involved in window graphics?

JZ: Over 15 years. I started in 2002 working at FLM Graphics serving the New York area. When I relocated my family to Charlotte, I was the large format manager with 15 employees, including installers.

Kevin: What is the largest window graphic you have worked on?

JZ: We printed and installed a 2nd and 3rd floor storefront graphic for a Chicago outlet that was over 2000 square feet.

Kevin: What materials do you print on?

JZ: Adhesive vinyl, we never use glue. I’ve used a lot of 2nd surface materials (2nd surface adheres to the inside of glass with the print facing out). Perforated vinyl is used often, but only for exterior applications. Vehicle windows must be printed on a larger perforation than storefront vinyl.

Kevin: What types of vinyl do you use?

JZ: Standard clear, Opti-Clear, which has a “No-Haze” adhesive and Block-Out, which has the “No-See-Thru” backing and Perforated vinyl.

Kevin: What’s the difference between interior and exterior window graphics?

JZ: Normally, interior vinyl doesn’t have laminate and “clings” can only be used inside. Exterior applications must consider the climate; sun, wind, rain all influence the application and the print, long-term.

Kevin: Tell me about White Ink printing.

JZ: White ink is fantastic! It enables us to print on clear vinyl, control transparency, and most importantly, print very complex images, brands and logos without the need for plotting and weeding. White ink printing improves the quality, saves time/labor and reduces the cost.

Kevin: What is the difference between long-term and short-term storefront graphics?

JZ: Adhesive types of vinyl; a shorter-term graphic will print on a low tack adhesive vinyl, for ease of removal, wherein as a long-term advertisement will need a high-tack vinyl for a tighter adherent to the substrate.

Kevin: Where is the break between short-term and long-term?

JZ: 1 month, if the advertisement/window graphic will be in place for over a month, I always recommend the long-term vinyl.

Kevin: Does window tinting influence how you print and install?

JZ: Yes, glass with tint can’t have 2nd surface print, it must be applied to the exterior of the window to be seen.

Kevin: Frosted or Etched, what’s the difference?

JZ: Frosted is translucent and replicates a “frosted glass” look, and etched is for logos, brands, fonts and lettering.

Kevin: How much does storefront window graphics cost?

JZ: Every application/project is unique, it’s difficult to place an “across the board” price on window graphics. For a 4’ x 8’ vinyl graphic, lowest possible cost, on short-term vinyl would start at $7 per square foot, a long-term graphic would start around $11, with larger projects, the price per square foot goes down.
